COTABATO, July 25, 2016–Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Colin M. Bagaporo as bishop of the Diocese of Kidapawan.  The announcement was made at 6PM today.

Until this appointment, Bishop Bagaporo was auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Cotabato since his Episcopal ordination in 2006.  Ordained a priest in 1980, he was born in Cotabato City in 1954.

Before becoming a bishop, Bagaporo was president of Notre Dame of Tacurong College and vicar general of the Archbishop of Cotabato.

At the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines he was appointed vice-chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Health Care (2009-2011) and vice-chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Interreligious Dialogue (2013-2015).

The Diocese of Kidapawan was left without a bishop since March 2014 when Bishop Romulo de la Cruz was appointed Archbishop of Zamboanga.

The date of his installation as bishop of Kidapawan will be announced later.  (CBCPNews)
