BACOLOD City, Oct. 1, 2012―Around 180 young people attended a teen sexuality seminar organized by Queen of Peace parish in coordination with the Diocesan Commission on Youth last September 23 at the at the SJI Auditorium, Bacolod City.
Youth participants came from different parish-based youth ministries, schools and youth groups.
Resource speaker for the half-day seminar was Mr. Ed Sorreta, director of Pro-Life Philippines.
Sorreta made of use of the “pork barbeque” as an analogy to accentuate about sex and sexuality. Everybody loves and can eat the meat part but not all can appreciate and eat the fat part of the barbeque.
This is paralleled also to the setting of the youth, the meat part is the sexuality that we have to value because we are created in the likeness and image of God and that we are made out of love; the fat part is the sex which is only pertinent to the married couple who are given the extraordinary privileges: the human privilege to express their love and communion and the divine privilege to procreate.
Though the seminar was quite short but the speaker’s compelling words stirred the minds and hearts of the youth to stand with conviction and fervor to uphold, respect and love their irreplaceable sexuality.
The young people left the seminar knowing that they are affirmed of their uniqueness and that true love really waits.
The seminar was part of the Queen of Peace parish activities in preparation for the feast of their second patron saint, St. Lorenzo Ruiz on September 28. (Adsum/with reports from Marissa Panagsagan)
