Bishop-emeritus Arellano passes away

MANILA, Feb. 2, 2014—Bishop Prospero Arellano, emeritus of the Diocese of Libmanan passed away February 1. He was 77. 

Born in Bombon, Camarines Sur on January 17, 1937, Arellano was ordained a priest on March 30, 1963. 

He finished his theological studies from Naga’s Holy Rosary Major Seminary, and taught in the same seminary prior to his appointment as first bishop-prelate of Libmanan. He also served as Rector of Holy Rosary Minor Seminary and parish priest of Pili, Camarines Sur and San Isidro Parish in Iriga City. 

Arellano was appointed prelate of Libmanan on December 9, 1989 and was ordained on March 19, 1990. He retired as Bishop of Libmanan on May 19, 2008. 

His body currently lies in state at his residence at San Roque, Bombon until its transfer to Libmanan Cathedral on Friday morning. He will be buried on Monday, February 10 after the 9 am funeral Mass at the Libmanan Cathedral. (CBCPNews)
