Caritas Manila releases P6M for flood victims

MANILA, August 22, 2013—Caritas Manila, the lead social service agency of the Catholic Church has released some PhP6 million for relief aid to typhoon and flood victims. 

As of August 22, around 16,000 families have received Caritas Damayan Emergency Relief Packs distributed by Caritas Manila using its extensive network of volunteers. 

The relief packs, together with 200 boxes of medicines, hygiene bags (containing soaps, detergents, toothpaste etc.) and 200 sacks of clothes were distributed in the parishes heavily affected by the typhoon and floods caused by monsoon rains in Metro Manila and in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, and Bataan. 

Each Caritas Damayan Emergency Relief Pack contain five kilos of rice, about 6 to 9 canned foods, biscuits, instant noodles, coffee and mineral water. 

Caritas Damayan is the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Program of Caritas Manila. Quick-Response Emergency Relief is one of the major tasks of Caritas Damayan. 

Hundreds of thousands of families were affected by the typhoon and the monsoon rains that flooded several cities in Manila and municipalities in Luzon. 

The massive flooding also brought death to 17 people and at least P78 million in damages to agriculture and infrastructure. (CBCPNews)
