Iloilo youth to celebrate World Youth Day locally

JARO, Iloilo, July 18, 2013—The Archdiocese of Jaro will join the worldwide celebration of the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro with a local Archdiocesan World Youth Day on July 27, 2013, themed “Go and Make Disciples of all Nations”.

Organized by the Jaro Archdiocesan Youth Commission (JAYC), all young people in parishes, schools, dormitories, communities throughout Iloilo are urged to take part in this celebration of faith which will be held in De Paul College Gymnasium in Iloilo City.

To prepare as many young people possible, pre-World Youth Day activities are being held that include “Campus and Dormitories Tour of the World Youth Day”, “Rio Patrons and Intercessors”, from July 16 to July 24, and an “Exhibit on the history of the World Youth Day” at SM City Iloilo on July 20 to July 28.

Several parishes, such as the National Shrine of Our Lady of Candles in Jaro, St. Catherine of Alexandria in Leon, St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Jaro, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish in Calumpang are also holding Taize Prayers on July 18 to July 26 for the success of the World Youth Day.

Jaro Archbishop Angel N. Lagdameo has invited the youth to simultaneously celebrate the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil which will be held on July 23-28.

“This gathering is a way for us to celebrate the Year of Faith and so I am inviting all the youth to join in this celebration of faith,” Lagdameo said.

Lagdameo’s invitation for the local World Youth Day celebration is sent to the young people in Iloilo not only through the traditional tri-media but also through the social networking sites such as the Jaro Archdiocesan Youth Commission’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/jayc.iloilo) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=4BVnXhvIryE).
