CATARMAN, Northern Samar, Dec. 22, 2009—Coupled with his traditional Christmas greetings, was a bishop's advice to his flock to remain resilient and to work for peace in the face of widespread corruption, violence and economic crisis hounding the country.
Catarman Bishop Emmanuel Trance said the pressing problems in the country today “call for resiliency, peace-building, accountability and transparency” among the people and those in public service.
He said the issue of corruption among public officials has remained a big problem especially during election time.
Northern Samar is one of the poorest provinces in the country where an active insurgency exists.
But with a deeper faith in God coupled with love for one’s neighbor, the Filipino households will be able to steer past through challenges in life, the bishop said.
The problems in the country notwithstanding, he said the spirit of Christmas “continues to remain in our families and communities as everyone celebrates one’s faith.”
The bishop said his prayer is for everyone to enjoy and benefit much spiritually from the celebration of Christmas. (Melo M. Acuna)
