PPCRV taps cable TV operators for voters’ education

MANILA, Dec. 10, 2009— The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) has teamed up with the country’s biggest organization of cable television operators for its voters’ education program.

The church-backed poll watchdog has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Cable Television Association, Inc. for an effective public education on the automated elections in 2010.

The agreement was signed by PPCRV national chairperson Henrietta De Villa and PCTA president Leo Wong in a simple ceremony held at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in Manila recently.

“...The Parties have agreed to work together to achieve a comprehensive, credible, reliable and relevant public education and coverage of 2010 elections,” the agreement reads.

PCTA is the umbrella organization of cable TV operators in the country consisting of the biggest cable operators, as well as, the medium and small cable operators.

De Villa said the organization, serving 85% of the country’s total cable TV subscribers, would surely be a big help in their information dissemination campaign.

She said the PTCA has allowed the airing PPCRV’s instructional video material on poll automation for free.

To ensure that voters would understand how to use the precinct county optical scan (PCOS) machines, the video, De Villa added, provides an illustrated step-by-step instruction on the new voting system.

“We really welcome this cooperation between the PPCRV and the cable TV operators to achieve a comprehensive, reliable and relevant public education and coverage of 2010 elections,” she said. (Roy Lagarde)
