DAET, Camarines Norte, Dec. 6, 2009—A two-day gathering of lay leaders in the Diocese of Daet has tackled the important role of laity in achieving social transformation in the country.
The event billed as the First Diocesan Convention of the Council of the Laity and themed “Laiko: Instrumento ng Pagbabago sa Simbahan at Lipunan”, was held at the Nazareth Development Center of the Socio-Pastoral Action Center Foundation, Inc. last November 20-21, 2009..
Dr. Linda T. Tacorda, National President of the Council of the Laity, lectured the participants on the implications and ramifications of vital role of the laity in the Church in all facets of social life which includes politics and governance.
She also encouraged the participants to get involved and go beyond their complacency and lethargy so as to help in the transformative struggles for personal and social progress.
The convention was held at an auspicious time when the country prepares for the upcoming electoral exercises where the new set of national and local new leaders would be selected.
The well-attended event was held under the auspices of the local organization of Council of the Laity. Representatives from all the 30 parishes comprising five vicariates participated in the convention.
Daet Bishop Gilbert A. Garcera invited sectoral representatives and various professionals whose interventions on the floor made the convention even richer.
Bishop Garcera appointed Engr. Victorio F. Corporal as President of the Council of the Laity of the Diocese of Daet.
He also appointed other officers to the Commission among the nominees. Msgr. Romeo A. Violeta, P.C., chairman of Commission on the Laity, gave his all out support to the lay ministry. (Abel Icatlo)
